How To Remove Red Wine From Carpets?

Spilling red wine on a carpet can seem to be an instant disaster. As soon as the glass falls, it is easy to assume that all is lost. In reality, it is possible to get red wine stains out of carpet, but you do have to act quickly.

There are a few different recipes for natural red wine carpet stain removers. The first step, however, in all methods is to use a fresh cloth, preferably white to avoid ink leaks, to pat the area and absorb as much red wine as you can. Do NOT rub. You should use water periodically to dilute the wine, but not too much that the stain spreads, and continue to blot. Once you can no longer get up any more of the stain, it is time to move to the next step.

One popular natural stain remover is club soda. Many people have club soda around their house, making it an excellent emergency cleaning tool. To use the club soda on the stain, pour a generous amount on the area, allow it to sit for a moment, and then blot up the liquid. It is believed that the salt in the soda helps to keep the stain from setting while you work.

Another popular method is to use baking soda. Some advocate for making a baking soda and water paste. It should be thick, about a ratio of three to one, and you should spread it liberally over the stain, allow it to dry, and then vacuum it up. Others swear by spraying hydrogen peroxide on the carpet fibers then sprinkling baking soda on top, allowing it to sit for two to three minutes, and then rinsing the area with water.

Vinegar is also popular for its stain removing properties. Typically the vinegar is applied first, followed by laundry soap, and then washed clean. Many people do find the vinegar does an excellent job of lifting stains on its own as well.

Whatever natural method you choose, occasionally they are not successful. Sometimes it is because you waited too long to get to work on the stain, other times the carpet may just be too thick for natural cleaning agents to do the job. When this happens, it may be time to bring out the big guns. You can try a powerful carpet stain remover yourself by simply following the instructions on the package.
