Oriental Rug Cleaning NJ

An oriental rug is an investment in beauty and tradition. Preserving that beauty is a partnership between the home owner and a professional carpet cleaning company. The oriental rug requires specific and thorough care and cleaning. This should not be attempted by just any rug cleaners, but reserved for practitioners experienced in the art of caring for oriental rugs.

Weekly gentle vacuuming is a must for an oriental rug. This is because dirt that becomes trapped in the fibers can literally cut them away over time. Use suction only on this fine work of art. Take care not to pull fringe into the vacuum cleaner. If the rug has fringe, simply tuck it under before vacuuming. Should a bit of fringe be pulled in, turn off the machine and gently remove the fringe from it.

About once a month, the rug will benefit from more thorough treatment. After vacuuming the top, turn it over and vacuum the bottom of the rug. Move slowly to allow the suction to pull out any dirt that has worked its way down into the fibers. If the weather permits, take the rug outside, place it over a line with the bottom side out, and gently beat it to remove more dust. Wear a mask; the rug has absorbed a large amount of dust.

Before returning the rug to its place, take the time to dust the floor thoroughly, perhaps with a damp mop, and allow to dry. Inspect the rug for early signs of damage. An early repair can save a very costly major repair later. Then turn the rug 180 degrees to even out any fading from the sun. It is also a good idea to protect the rug from sun exposure as much as possible. Windows can be covered with “Low E” film to reduce ultraviolet light.

If anything is spilled on the rug, clean it up immediately with a towel. Use clear, cold water to gently blot the stain until it is gone. Do not wet the rug too much. If milk is spilled, it is better to have the rug cleaned professionally right away. This is also true for pet stains, which can leave disagreeable odors that are hard to remove.

Walking on the carpet with bare or stocking feet is actually good for it, as this will help to distribute the lanolin through the rug. This also helps to discourage moths from laying eggs in the area.On the other hand, shoes and especially the dirt on them are not good for oriental rugs. Rubber soled shoes are particularly hard on the fine fibers.

Periodically, the oriental rug will have to be professionally cleaned. Choose a rug cleaning company with at least 10 years’ experience to perform this important service. Oriental rugs need and deserve special care which can only be provided by well trained and experienced staff. Ask the cleaners to treat areas that will be under furniture with odorless moth repellent.
